TESTIMONIALS

Mother of a 10-year-old boy

"The Friendship Classes" have been wonderful for my child. He is a wonderful friend, but his anxiety and shyness seemed to be holding him back. The "Friendship Classes" have helped him practice his social skills in a warm and nurturing environment. His confidence has soared and he is more comfortable in a variety of social groups. I would recommend these classes for all ages to give them confidence and fine tune their social skills.

Dr. Nicole Brink, Psychologist, The Harker School

Amicus came to our school ready to customize a social skills group that met the needs of our boys. They not only met that goal, but really connected with our school's families and provided valuable feedback to each one. Both Leina and Catherine are professional and sincere. Over the course of the workshop, I could hear tons of laughter from the boys - they were truly enjoying learning about themselves and each other! I have heard from the boys in the group and their families about the fun activities they engaged in, and how applicable to life they found the topics. I am very happy to be working with Leina and Catherine and I look forward to their workshops next year!

Dr. Tara Rolle, Principal, St. Raymond School

Amicus Therapy Group facilitated a series of small group workshops to develop and build essential playground skills for our primary grade students. As an administrator, I was most impressed with the level of professionalism and the amount of practical knowledge and skill that Amicus brought to our site. Our students were engaged in the process and the topics were consistently relevant and useful. In addition, Amicus provided feedback about each child to parents and shared broad, school improvements we could make to further support the development of our students. We were proud to offer this program for our students and grateful for the amazing and committed work provided by Amicus.

FAQs

What does a typical group meeting look like?
A different topic is covered each meeting, followed by discussion and practice through activities and games. The therapists provide guidance & coaching during teachable moments which arise from spontaneous interactions between the children.

What topics are covered?
Our curriculum addresses skills such as reading and responding to social cues, initiating and sustaining play & conversations, joining in, resolving conflicts, identifying feelings in self and others, managing strong feelings, and dealing with teasing and bullying.

What is your group session schedule?

We run 8-week sessions in the fall and spring, as well as a summer "camp."

Who would benefit from social skills groups?
Amicus serves a wide range of children and challenges. Some children in our program have a diagnosis, while some do not, and may never have a diagnosis. Children who will benefit from our groups are those whose social interactions are impacted by shyness, low self-confidence, difficulty resolving peer conflicts, inability to tolerate frustration, inattention, hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, inflexibility, trouble with reading or responding to social cues, or social learning differences.

How are parents involved?
Parents receive weekly handouts which detail the topic covered, along with suggested homework. A written report is provided at the conclusion of the session.

What is the cost of your groups?
Group fee for 8 weeks is $1250 - groups meet one hour weekly. Summer session fee is $690. Fees include take-home materials for practice, and a written report at the session's conclusion.

Do you accept insurance?

Our practice is "out-of-network." If you have benefits that allow you to see an out-of-network provider, you may be able to receive full or partial reimbursement for our group services. If requested, we will provide you with a statement - sometimes called a superbill - that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We do not contract with any insurance carrier, including "single-case agreements."

How do I register my child?
Please call or email us. We will ask about your child's strengths and social needs, and determine if our program is a good fit. Payment for the full session reserves your child's space.

How many children are in each group?
Groups are limited to three to five children, facilitated by a licensed therapist.

What is your refund policy?
In the rare event the group therapist deems the group to be an inappropriate fit for a child - once the session has begun - a prorated refund will be given. We are unable to credit for absences due to illness or vacation.

Which forms of payment do you accept?
Checks and all major credit cards. Please note that credit card payments will incur a $25 processing fee.

What are your fees for individual therapy?
$220 per 50-minute session & $130 per 30-minute session (in-person and virtual)
