Amicus: Latin for "friend"

Amicus Therapy Group is a social skills program which helps children master the art of friendship-making. We serve 1^st thru 8^th grade children in the Peninsula and South Bay areas. The children meet once weekly for 10 weeks, in small groups of 3 to 5 children, and are matched by age, gender, and social abilities. Our skill-building, psychoeducational groups are facilitated by experienced licensed therapists.

why groups?

Research shows that having friends has a significant impact on a child’s overall sense of self-esteem and well-being. Likewise, increasing a child’s competence in socially related skills improves their self-concept. With insight and repetition, children can be taught to read social cues; they can be taught skills to improve their chance of being successful in social interactions. Learning and practicing social skills in a group setting with peers helps children transfer and generalize these skills to the “real world.”
