a friendship and social skills program for children
groups
Amicus offers small social skills groups for 1st through 8th grade children. During each group meeting the children learn and practice a new skill with peers, and receive coaching and feedback from their group therapist. They are engaged through developmentally-appropriate activities such as games, art, collaborative projects, and role-plays.
Parents are integrated into our program through various ways: weekly handouts which outline the skill taught, and suggestions of ways to help their child practice during the week; email updates regarding their child’s progress; and a written concluding summary with recommendations.
group curriculum
~ Friendship-Making Skills (Greetings; Conversational Skills; Joining In)
~ Skills for Dealing with Feelings (Expressing Feelings; Recognizing and Understanding Another’s Feelings; Dealing with Anger)

who we serve
Amicus serves a wide range of children and challenges. Some children in our program have a diagnosis; others do not, and may never have a diagnosis. Children who will benefit from our groups are those whose social interactions are impacted by shyness, low self-confidence, difficulty resolving peer conflicts, inability to tolerate frustration, inattention, hyperactivity, anxiety, depression, inflexibility, trouble with reading or responding to social cues, or social cognition challenges.
